My School - the great Sharda Public , Defence Colony Delhi

It was 1980 , 27 years back I joined this school , I was 5 years old that time . I clearly remember my initially days in the school . It was little tough for me to adjust in this big school with so many kids around … we didn’t have this building that time and it was train shape single story building with cement roof sheet, and with football stadium size play ground . An Ice cream vender used to stand in the middle of it … My elder brother and sister who were their with me in the school used to get my an ice cream regularly and after recess I used to sit in their class room …. Then I had a biggest shock of my life my mom expired and I was too small to react on the same but I still remember that I used to cry a lot in my class room , my class teacher was god and she did her best to make comfortable that time .

I used to run from my class and normally I used to hide in the loo or behind the school van and always got caught.

Sharda Public School gave me every thing I needed , nirulas – a hot spot till today , near by railway track – we used to discuss train robbery of SHOLAY , Magoo Mam , she was our English teacher , who used to discuss grammy awards , Erose , Chanakya cinema , B Nagpal , our principal mam …. She used to dance with us on every 15 aug functions

I did not know that Sharda is a name of Goddess of Education but the rumor that time was Sharda was a girl friend of our director …

Sharda Public is South Delhi Public now , i hope still rocks

Hi It's been 16 years since I left Sharda Public School. I can still remember days when our principal Ms Nagpal used to wish every student preparing for Board exams with tikka and sweets to do well. I left school in 1992 with good marks but my class teacher Ms Raina expected more from me. I still remember most of my batch students like Chitra Gupta, Niti, Madhu, Kavita,Vaibhav, Anurag, Nitin and others. I have to say that I can still remember Ms Raj Sharma who always used to compare my hindi which was of poor standard to my brother. Veena Mam tried to teach us cooking, sewing which I have to say I am perfect now. I would love to meet up with teachers and commerce batch passed out in year 1992. To sum up I believe good or bad we all had a great time with brillant and outstanding teachers who you can never replace.Best wishes

It was great to see so many comments and that too from around the same time when I was in the school. I joined in 1984 (Class 1)and left in the year 1989 ( Class 5th) due to my father's transfer. Small stint but the most rejoiced stint of my schooling.I do have faded memories of trees on the boundary wall towards the railway track where I and other friends used to eat "Shahtoot" My first ever and last shahtoot juicy berries till date. Canteen used to sell bread pakodas for 25p. Sometimes I used to bunk the bus and take the railway track with other friends to take a short cut from the nearby nala to go towards the Nehru stadium and eventually to my place in Lodhi road complex without my parents knowing this for a very long time. I remember a friend Pushpinder Singh Dhingra (Rinku) if anyone could connect me to him, it would be real great. My email id is manishchandrakar@gmail.com and I currently live in US my cotact number is (001) 972-922-3071

Thanks for creating this blog.

The school in which u start your teenage is always very close to your heart. So is Sharda Public School. The unique shape white single story building, Different class of teachers, only 3 buses for transporting students, open roof toilets, only one tap for drinking fresh water just outside the chowkidar room are some of the memories I have from 1971 to 1978. Every class had 2 sections, “A” section only for boys and “B” section for boys and girls. I was in “B” section, the only reason I remember for me being in “B” section was my talent of telling stories (Rajan- Iqbal stories), which impressed Ms. Veena Madam and Ms. Raj Madam so much that they put me in “B” section, which otherwise had students like Kamal, Sapan, Narinder Agahri , Bhupinder, Sunita Kumari, Shabaz Sing (duggal 99), Richa Vashist, Sunita Chawla, Sangita Gupta, Smitha Sharma, Ireen, Christeen, Madhuri Daga, Nita Anand and a very special Friend of mine who was from Iran “Mahadad Fakri” (I am really looking for him).
Every class had a cricket team, I remember in Class VII, my class had team from both A & B section and we defeated the Class VIII (which was captained by Inayat). It was one of our major achievement, which gave me so much confidence that I played for Delhi state later on. Some player from section A were, Charanjeet Singh, Eric, Rajesh Manchanda and Gopal, some other student in B section I remember are Rajkumar, Harjeet Singh Ahuja, Jugminder Singh, Ashok Chiller, Kamaljeet, Trilok Chand, Gauri Shankar, and a boy known as Rajput Rawat.
I was not fortunate to be a student of Ms. Sheeba Madam, about whom there are some beautiful comments, But I remember Teachers like Ms. Rashmi (Science), Ms. Neelam (Sanskrit), Ms. Shurksha Madam (Maths), Ms. Kiran (PTI), Ms. Anita Ahuja (English), Ms. Promila Talwar(Social Studies), and for me all of them were very beautiful teachers. I had crush on all of them but different time. I do remember some of my seniors like Inayat, Rekha, Ritu, Christopher, Poonam (who later on was seen in t.v programs), there was a brother sister duo in Poonam’s class (I don’t remember their names).
I do support Inayat idea of a re-union of all the students of Sharda Public from our era. My email address is mahindersingh@hotmail.com and I am in face book as Mahinder Ratan. God bless u all.

Thanks for posting so many wonderful memories of SPS. I have been looking to connect with my classmates from good old days and recently got in touch with couple via linkedin and facebook.
I joined SPS in 1979 in IIIrd A. Kuntal madam was our class teacher and she followed us until 6th I believe and then moved on getting married. Veena madam, Raj madam, Raina madam, Margo madam are/were excellent teachers and just a mention of these names send me traveling in sweet memories. It was single storeyed asbestos roof building with two columns of classrooms culminating in hall which was used for exams or functions. Even though the new building was completed and our classes had moved, we still had our 10th class farewell function in that hall.
Some of my friends doing breakdance during functions used to be high point besides laddoos from Principal madam(B Nagpal). We will always remember her as principal madam even though Mrs Rawat signed our docs.
There used to be a huge stage in one corner of the ground and band guys would be there for the morning prayers. Anyone still remembers, "O god, in heaven, I bow to you. I thank you...."
It would be followed by National Anthem and some PT. During recess, all the kids would come out and so many cricket wickets would be formed. everyone would run in between here and there and as soon as the bell rang, it would be like as if no one lived here.
One ice cream vendor, another one for bread pakoras etc. one tap to drink water from, for entire school.
I witnessed new building built from foundation up. Also watched Jawaharlal Nehru stadium being built for asian games, new tracks laid for the local train. Electric trains replaced diesel engines in 1982.
Then came our favorite games teacher, Mr Rawat although we named him "Mendis" for some reason. He started our first official cricket team and I am so glad that I was part of it. I went to Sports Authority of India, later captained IIT Delhi and represented Singapore, after playing for SPS in Thumsup and Nehru trophies.
All those good memories are still fresh in my mind, even though its been over two decades that I passed class XII from SPS. I am looking for any of the schoolmates with whom I shared the beautiful journey of studying at SPS.
I work for Discovery Channel in Washington DC and could be reached via: anilkm@hotmail.com
Please share your memories and wonderful moments that we had at our excellent school
Cheers
Anil Kumar

Hi there!
I would like to burn a theme at here. There is such a thing, called HYIP, or High Yield Investment Program. It reminds of ponzy-like structure, but in rare cases one may happen to meet a company that really pays up to 2% daily not on invested money, but from real profits.

For several years , I earn money with the help of these programs.
I don't have problems with money now, but there are heights that must be conquered . I make 2G daily, and I started with funny 500 bucks.
Right now, I managed to catch a guaranteed variant to make a sharp rise . Turn to my web site to get additional info.

hi all the good people from sharda public school.

i was there from nur - class 12th 1987-88

i was at the time when the new building was at all there, there used to be old two lines building with a central alley..and a huge ground half unused with long grass. with open toilets without doors for both guys and girls( can you imagin) with no water most of the time, and with only one drinking water tap.

had some of my greatest memories with my classmates whom i have never met after the school and have no clus where all of them are..

i remember the teachers, some of them, but surely know their faces its only that the name doesnt come in mind, but the popular ones remebered like, raina, mendis, raj for hindi, suraksha, nagpal, short height drawing teacher, lilly madam, rawat sir, and their daughter in law( there were two) one was very pretty and one used to teach sanskrit.then kali ayaa.

i have not able to meet anybody since 1988. not in touch with anybody...do remember some of my class mates who were there through out like anil kumar, gurdeep bhatia, sanjay verma ( died)
M A Khan, Rishi Kashyap, Amit, rajneet kaur, suman arora, leena, few more girls in the same batch

hope who ever is from this batch is doind well in life and in happy and healthy, please contact me. life is short and we must meet up, kal ho na ho.

do u guys & gals remember that a lot of corporal punishment was given in our school. i still remember being brutually canned by some teachers for very very tiny mistake or i would say where i was totally innocent.
do u think such people can make good teachers or beating a hell out of 10 year old can help shape his future.
although i would say only 10% of teachers were like that it was the rest of 90% who we can respect & appreciate.
I will not disclose my name but i had such a bad experince that those memories are still a nightmare & that to even when i used to come 2nd or 3rd in my class.
pls. comment

Hi SPS will always remain close to my heart. The teachers were really good. especially mrs. margo. I do feel pretty nostalgic when I pass through the school building. I was there only for two years but those two years were the best years of my schooling. There were hilarious and funny situations created by the classmates I really cannot forget.

In one of the blog it says she was his ex girlfriend...she was his wife who was treated brutally and finally was forced to desert him and his 2 sons dilip and Sudhir....and eventually died a tragic death.

Sharda Rawat was Director's G.S Rawat's(Late) ex wife who was thrown out wen she raised her voice against his brutality and womanising, leaving her 2 sons Dileep and Sudhir behind.Nobody knows the truth till date bit I am aware of the history as I am that lady i.e Sharda Rawat's friends daughter.

While reading and taking down the comments made by different people for SPS even I become nostalgic and emotional for those days. Those days were really commendable when me and my friends used to bunk classes and would spend the whole day near Defence Colony flyover. Many a times we were caught by our teachers and were made to sit on the floor outside of the principal’s office and were given merciless beatings. Those memories when we used to explode bombs around Diwali festivals inside the school premises are still intact. The tragic death of my close friend Mohit Bakshi and the kind of fun we used to have in labo classes, the Yamaha bike of Mandeep Singh Kohli with redials and its electric shocks are some of the instances that won’t fad away ever. The kind of things which we used to do to see the morning shows of south Indian adult films is again a tremendous experience. The fear created by Raina and Mago mam during their classes, the beatings of manager sir including bang of roller on my head, the kind of treatment given by us to one new PTI who dared to force us to school (thats a different issue later when we got to know that he is a new PTI we ran away and later caught and were made Murga outside principal office), the police background of laccho sir and his spicy talks made all of us adult before time. The invitation given to labo sir in a family get together and then teasing him inside the pandal with a stick from outside is again a fun loving moment. The crash of zypsy wherein Jatin lost few of his fingers, the ride on the railway engine from defence colony to chanakya cinema, the filmi fights wherein hoard of guzzar crowd gathered to beat all of us, the passion for mobile phones, the night outs during exams etc etc are like treasure of my past.

Not as my sister not as g/f but as our class mate only. when we stand in prayer then i only prayer train will pass back from our school and whe it passed i feel too good with Chhyk Chhyk throughing out black smoke and some time i found people stealing coal from running train and my friend charlie which i called with nick name say who we steal the gold from running train. I like the old building and always feel good when i drink water from tank which is situated on the corner of front gate. I hate Raina madam because he beat me most but donot i feel she is too nice and perfect teacher. I always steal practial models from store and give and mark my name which is called cheating. Dear Friends,

Glad to get connected to my old school and buddies. The Joy, the thunder and the innocence which is inside cant be explained in words.
My name is Jaikumar Tejwani and I was part of school from 1976 (class V) to 1979 (class VII). My batch-mates were Mahinder Ratan (the class hero), Sunita Kumari (our all time monitor), Kamal Mahajan (innocent boy of the class, always shining), Sunita Chawla (never liked Ranjeeta, my favourite herioine at that time. Sunita you had those most wonder hair style coupled with speaking eyes), Bittoo Bedi (itna Gusa kyona aata tha, mujhe tab samaj nahin aaya) and very special Richa Ji ( i always admired her eyes and her motivation). Other very close students were Nitin Berry (the guy who in class VII told me somthing very secret, where r u dear), KamalJeet (Cigarette pine wala pehla bacha in our class), sunita Rani (Bahut shant, the cow of the class). In addition, Inayat, Irene, Chirstene, Neera, ....... and few other faces, whose name i have forgotten but remember their naughty and innocent faces, i miss you all guyssssss. I wish i could get in touch with all of them. Also my brother Jaikishan Tejwani was also in the school from 1976 to almost 1982 and was a great support. Mahinder I remeber we use to stage dramas in the class and on the school stage (Namaste Namaste, being one of our favourites). Our very teachers included Veena Dhal Mam (very kind and motherly), Suraksha and Sudesh Mam (the best maths teacher I ever met), Khullar Mam (and old lady with grey hairs), Rawat Mam (our sanskrit teacher and very passionate about her subject) and yes our Principal mam Nagpal (also refered to as Indira Gandhi due to her hair style similar to later PM).

Love you all guys and you may get in tuch with me at jaikumartejwani@gmail.com and with the similar id on facebook.

2002 Batch

I was just searching some good boutique in south Delhi and this blog caught my attention. I wonder if anyone really updates this blog.
I miss School almost...well most of the times.

Not a big fans of Teachers. Until now in university I don't like teachers. I think its the legacy of SDPS. But i miss my friends. whenever I go to India, I willingly go from the Defence colony flyover, just to see the school. And i feel happy that it is still there.
My favorite spots in SDPS were Canteen and gigantic tree next to Canteen, I used to bunk all Negi sir's (Math teacher)there classes there. Mr. Negi even told me that if I pass school in one try, he will change his name. But he didn't..ha ha ha...I don't think it matters a lot cos I don't know his first name anyways!!!... Wonder how I manage to pass school, college and now in University....believe it or not we had learn at-least something from SDPS. I guess its the quality of passing almost any kind of situation comes in front of us...Kudos to our school...SOUTH DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL URF SHARDA PUBLIC..Good luck to all!!!!
